Harry potter and the order of phoenix book protagonist series#
There was no twist or surprise here, just a throwaway film to get you to the next one. Some of my all time favorite books and movies are the Harry Potter series by J.K. The plot was almost made too simply, especially compared to prior episodes where mysteries had to be solved. And i did not like feeling like parts were missing. I did not care for the shift in spirit (the opening seemed more like a drama than a fantasy film). I believe this to be the weakest film up to this point. The outcome could have been much improved and lives could have been spared if the government was simply honest. This political act of protecting a reputation slows down the process of preparing for Voldemort and stands in the way of clearing Sirius Black's name. But they go out of their way to deny this and blame other people for terrible acts that have occurred.
We know from the previous film that Voldemort is back, and the Ministry of Magic likely knows it, too. There is talk of order, obedience, conformity, the need for a government to have a firm hand and to protect its own butt when damaging information comes to light. Parallels could be made between this and the rise of fascism or McCarthyism. What really stands out about this film is how political it is. Her role is fairly small, but important, and her character adds the one bit of lightness to this script (aside from possibly the Weasley's pranks). She was apparently in the books for a while as a minor character but did not come on to the movies until now. The best addition to this film from previously ones is Luna Lovegood. I have not read the books, but I get the impression a great deal was left out to account for time and to make the plot run smoother. Enter a particularly loathsome new character: the toadlike and simpering (hem, hem) Dolores Umbridge, senior undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, who. Not only has the director changed (again) but the screenplay has a new hand, making the very feel somewhat off. It could also be the introduction of a new crew. This could be because of the subject matter: the students spend less time in class and more time preparing for real world evil. At this point in the series, the story takes a decidedly darker and more sinister turn. With this, Harry is able to understand what his future will hold and in doing so, can come of age and look at events with a more level head.With their warning about Lord Voldemort's return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as an authoritarian bureaucrat slowly seizes power at Hogwarts. Later, Dumbledore explains that he ignored Harry in an attempt to keep him safe and tells him that according to a prophecy, Harry must kill Voldemort or Voldemort will kill him.
Harry's stubbornness means that he's often at odds with Umbridge and makes little effort to behave. She makes it clear that she's there to stop Harry from telling the truth about Voldemort, which makes Harry even angrier than he already is and also reinforces for him the importance of telling his story, even when there are dire consequences to doing so. Umbridge's appointment to Hogwarts poses several problems for Harry. With this, Harry also begins to question who he is and ultimately comes to the conclusion that he can love and respect his father while not embodying him in every way. After witnessing his fifteen-year-old father torment Snape in one of Snape's memories, Harry begins to question how much he should admire his father and how good of a person his father really was. Harry does his best to be a good friend, and as in the previous books, he is extremely close with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. This resentment grows as adults continue to ignore Harry, and this makes Harry feel alone, unmoored, and though he has to rely on himself to figure things out, rather than understanding that he can ask for help. Throughout the novel (but especially during the summer before his fifth year begins) Harry resents the adults around him for keeping him in the dark in regard to what's going on with the resistance to Voldemort. He succeeded in murdering Harry's parents, James and Lily, but when he tried to kill Harry, the curse rebounded on Voldemort and gave Harry a lightning bolt shaped scar.
